Silgan buying dispensers, closures maker Weener Plastic Holdings

Weener operates a global network of 19 facilities, predominantly in Europe and the Americas.

Rigid packaging supplier Silgan Holdings Inc. has announced plans to acquire Dutch dispensing and specialty closures maker Weener Plastic Holdings BV for 838 million euros (US$900 million).

Headquartered in Ede, the Netherlands, Weener operates a global network of 19 facilities predominantly in Europe and the Americas, with approximately 4,000 employees and proprietary manufacturing technologies including cleanroom capabilities.

Silgan is based in Stamford, Conn., Silgan operates 105 manufacturing facilities in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Its Canadian site are located in Delta, B.C., and Edmonton, Alta.

“The proposed acquisition of Weener represents the continuation of our strategy to expand our global dispensing and specialty closures franchise and a clear example of the effectiveness of our disciplined capital allocation model to create value for our shareholders,” Silgan president and CEO Adam Greenlee said in a July 24 statement. “The combination of Weener’s innovative product offering, advanced manufacturing technologies and efficient operating footprint, strong customer relationships and presence in growing consumer markets, including personal and health care, complements our existing dispensing business well.”

The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2024.
